An increasing of the efficiency of microbiological synthesis of 1,3-propanediol from crude glycerol by the concentration of biomass Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Szymanowska-Powalowska,Daria; Leja,Katarzyna.
Background 1,3-Propanodiol (1,3-PD), is used in the production of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), an aromatic polyester that exhibits high elastic recoveries. It is also employed as a supplement with low solidification properties, a solvent and a lubricant in the formof propylene glycol. 1,3-PD is effectively synthesized by a microbiological way from crude glycerol. The main problem of this technology is using a high concentration of glycerol, which is a limiting factor for bacteria cells growth (especially in batch fermentation). Results In this work, the influence of different glycerol concentration in batch fermentation on Clostridium butyricum DSP1 metabolism was investigated. The biomass was concentrated for two times with the use of membrane...

Beer Clarification with polysulfone membrane and study on fouling mechanism BABT
Oliveira,Ricardo Cardoso de; Barros,Sueli Teresa Davantel de.
The aims of the present work were to study the relationship between the fluxes, permeate quality, and fouling mechanism. A polysulfone membrane with 100 KDa and 0.12 m² of surface area was used. Permeate fluxes were measured for different pressures (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 bar) at the same temperature of 8 ºC. The fluxes measured for each pressure ranged from 22, 24, 27 and 30 kg h-1m-2 at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 bar, respectively. Samples of the feed and permeate were analyzed for pH, color, turbidity, sugar, bitterness, and proteins. The fouling mechanisms observed were cake filtration, partial pore blocking, and complete pore blocking.

Immersed hollow fibres microfiltration (MF) for removing undesirable micro-algae and protecting semi-closed aquaculture basins ArchiMer
Castaing, Jean-baptiste; Masse, A.; Sechet, Veronique; Sabiri, N. -e.; Pontie, M.; Haure, Joel; Jaouen, P..
In this study, an original use of immersed microfiltration membranes (mean pore size equal to 0.2 mu m) is investigated for the total removal of toxic dinoflagellates from seawater. Using a membrane autopsy and fouling model approach and the use of fouling indexes (called Pore Blocking Index, Pore Constriction Index and Cake Filtration Index), three dinoflagellate suspensions (Heterocapsa triquetra, Alexandrium minutum and Prorocentrum lima) have been microfiltered in order to study the influence of micro-algal species and its concentrations (1,000 and 30,000 cells/mL) on filtration yield and membrane fouling mechanisms. Results showed that all micro-algae have been retained after 180 min of microfiltration. At 30,000 cells/mL, permeate fluxes declined...

Performance of the constructed wetland system for the treatment of water from the corumbataí river BABT
Borges,Ana Kleiber Pessoa; Tauk-Tornisielo,Sâmia Maria; Domingos,Roberto Naves; Angelis,Dejanira de Franceschi de.
The aim of this work was to study the constructed wetland system for the treatment of water from the Corumbataí river simulated on a laboratory scale. The parameters analyzed at different points of the system were ammonia, biochemical demand for oxygen (BDO), chemical demand for oxygen (CDO), chlorides, apparent color, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K), silicon (Si), total phosphorous, total coliforms and Escherichia coli, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, and macrophyte biomass. The results demonstrated that this alternative water treatment system was effective in removing the microorganisms (total coliforms and E. coli), among other parameters analyzed, for varying periods of the treatment, promoting...

Procédés de traitement de l'eau de mer en conchyliculture pour la sauvegarde et le maintien de la qualité des mollusques bivalves ArchiMer
Castaing, Jean-baptiste.
The aim of this work is the study of seawater filtration process to preserve commercial bivalves and main tain their quality during harmful algal blooms. The originality of this work is based on the study of rustic processes, capable of removing toxic microalgae from seawater. Two filtration processes have been studied, the immersed hollow fibres membranes and a sand filter. The origin and nature of fouling mechanisms have been identified in connection with the selectivity and energy consumption . Suspensions of toxic and nontoxic microalgae were reconstituted and then filtered through 10 kDa, 300 kDa and 0.2 µm membranes and a sand filter (mean grain diameter dg equal to 250-520 µm). Microfiltration membrane 0.2 µm has emerged as the most suitable for the...

Suco clarificado de yacon: processo, caracterização e aceitabilidade de bebidas mistas formuladas com suco de caju. Infoteca-e
